Walking amongst gods

A random email out of the blue earlier this year led one of my portraits from my series titled ‘The Crossfitters’ being featured in this new book by Henry Carroll – ‘Read this if you want to take great photographs of people’.

In double spread on Pg 34 Henry talks about my work in the sense ‘It’s a much about what you exclude as what you include with in an image’ that can create a strong portrait.

It is quite surreal to be featured in a book alongside some of the photographic greats of the past and present –

Read This If You Want to Take Great Photographs of People

Henry Carroll

Read This If You Want to Take Great Photographs of People is the hotly anticipated follow-up to Henry Carroll’s bestselling Read This If You Want to Take Great Photographs. Carroll’s second book tackles the subject of portrait photography using the same fresh, straightforward, and jargon-free approach that made his first book a popular bestseller.

This introduction to portrait photography covers topics such as composition, context, street photography, black-and-white vs. color, the psychology of different types of light, plus more. Iconic images from top photographers such as Richard Avedon, Cindy Sherman, Gary Winogrand, and Henri Cartier-Bresson, among others, help to illustrate the book’s tips and pointers while offering inspiration for photographers of all levels.

The book is punctuated with “technical tangents,” which provide invaluable practical guidance for basic lighting set-ups, equipment, camera modes and more. Also included is helpful advice regarding legal rights whenever taking photographs of people.

A pleasure to be included, I hope it helps and inspires people.
